What makes these award-winning plants so special?

Just one of many accolades presented at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Award is judged on innovation, appeal, excellence and impact. Winning plants must offer new and significant benefits, as well as that special something that the judges believe will stand the test of time.

Here’s a bit more about each of the award-winning garden plants you can win:

Mangave Mad about Mangave® 'Praying Hands'

Mangave ‘Praying Hands’

Taking third place in 2024’s RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Award, Mangave ‘Praying Hands’ is an unusual succulent with a unique artichoke shape. A hybrid cross between an architectural Agave and a fast-growing Manfreda, the glossy green curled leaves are tipped with scarlet spines. Not only does this Mangave make a fantastic patio feature, it’s drought-tolerant and easy to grow.

Agapanthus 'Black Jack'

Agapanthus ‘Black Jack’

Proudly winning RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Award 2023, Agapanthus ‘Black Jack’ beat off stiff competition to take first place. With luxurious, velvety black petals, this repeat flowering, multi-stemmed Agapanthus produces huge numbers of architectural flowerheads from mid-summer until autumn. Tolerant of drought, it’s a great choice for dry borders.

Hydrangea serrata 'Euphoria Pink'

Hydrangea serrata ‘Euphoria Pink’

Winning second place in 2023’s RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Award, Hydrangea serrata ‘Euphoria Pink’ has vivid tricolour foliage and striking ruby-coloured lacecap-style flower heads. The tricolour foliage is exceptional – splashes of silvery green surrounded by a bold white margin with pink tints in spring. Achieving a 60cm height and spread, this compact plant is suitable for borders or containers.

Weigela 'Camouflage'

Weigela ‘Camouflage’

Taking third place in 2023’s RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Award, Weigela ‘Camouflage’ was born from T&M’s own breeding programme. Earning a place in any garden for its variegated purple-green foliage, the generous clusters of trumpet-like, scarlet flowers are an added bonus. Beautiful in mixed borders or patio containers, this weigela thrives in full sun or part shade.
